The NCAA’s Concept of Amateurism at its Best

Ohio State Athletic Director Gene Smith earned an $18,000 bonus when Ohio State wrestler Logan Stieber won the 141-pound wrestling NCAA championship last week.  Dan Wetzel of Yahoo! Sports has the story.

Resume Issue Ensnares Manhattan Basketball Coach

Steve Masiello, coach of the Manhattan College basketball team, was placed on leave by the school after it was revealed that he never earned a degree from the University of Kentucky, despite stating so on his resume.  The issue came to light after Masiello was set to accept a job at the University of South Florida.

I don’t have all the facts and I don’t know Masiello.  However, I like the idea of Manhattan keeping Masiello, requiring him to earn his degree from Manhattan and adjusting his contract accordingly.
