Adding Members to the Big East May Help Defend Against West Virginia Suit
Alicia Jessop over at the Business of College Sports has an interesting post on how the Big East needs to add members now, in part to defend against the lawsuit brought by West Virginia. The Big East reportedly sent out invitations to Boise State, Navy and Air Force for football only and SMU, Houston and Central Florida for all sports this week.
McCann on the Los Angeles Dodgers
Michael McCann of SI.com and the Sports Law Blog has an interesting piece on the situation with the Los Angeles Dodgers and Frank McCourt. McCann describes McCourt’s agreement to sell the team as a win for Major League Baseball Commissioner Bud Selig, as well as “a warning to other clubs mired in financial difficulty that MLB can and will take over teams and force out unacceptable owners.”
BCS Leadership Unconcerned with Legal Challenge
An Associated Press article indicates that BCS leadership is not concerned with a legal challenge from the U.S. Department of Justice. The article quotes a number of prominent sports law experts, including Gabe Feldman of Tulane University Law School, who do not necessarily concur.
