Boston College linebacker Mark Herzlich has signed with the New York Giants as a rookie free agent. Herzlich has been an inspirational story since he was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer, Ewing’s sarcoma, after his junior season, when he was considered a sure-fire first round draft pick. Herzlich successfully completed treatment and returned to play for Boston College this past fall.
Herzlich was not drafted in April’s NFL Draft, but his positive attitude and legions of fans made him one of the biggest stories of the NFL Draft. Throughout the NFL lockout, fans continued to show their support for Herzlich and voice hopes that their team would sign him. Now he has a chance to play for the New York Giants.
Giants owner John Mara reportedly suggested signing Herzlich, who was also considering the Baltimore Ravens and Philadelphia Eagles. Congratulations and best of luck to Mark Herzlich. We’ll be rooting for you.
