UConn Players Impress at NFL Combine

In 2009, the UConn football program left an undeniable impression upon the NFL Draft, with four players chosen in the first two rounds.  In 2010, two UConn players were chosen.  UConn looks to continue its success in the 2011 NFL Draft, and is off to an excellent start with an all-time high of six players invited to the NFL Combine in Indianapolis.

The six players participating are offensive guard Zach Hurd (Waterford, Conn.), linebacker Scott Lutrus (Brookfield, Conn.), linebacker Greg Lloyd (Clermont, Fla.), running back Jordan Todman (North Dartmouth, Mass.), fullback Anthony Sherman (North Attleboro, Mass.) and linebacker Lawrence Wilson (Tuscaloosa, Ala.).

Todman, Hurd and Sherman have already worked out.  The fullback-tailback duo of Sherman and Todman brought their outstanding on-field work to the Combine.  Sherman led all running backs in the bench press, with 32 repetitions at 225 pounds and Todman posted a time of 4.40 on the 40-yard dash, which tied him for the third best time among running backs.  Defensive players Lutrus, Lloyd and Wilson are set to work out today.

UConn’s Pro Day will be held on March 23 in Storrs.  Also, check out Zach Hurd’s “Chasing a Dream” blog at theday.com for a behind the scenes look at how players prepare for the Combine and Draft.

Stay tuned for more coverage of UConn and the NFL Draft in the coming weeks.
