Greater New Haven Chamber Sports Council to Host Hot Stove Event

The Greater New Haven Chamber of Commerce Sports Council will host a Hot Stove Breakfast event featuring Ron Darling and Dr. Rich Diana on Wednesday, January 26, from 8-10 a.m., at the Long Wharf Theatre, 222 Sargent Dr., New Haven. Veteran sportscaster George Grande will moderate.  The event is sponsored by Connecticut Orthopaedic Specialists.

The function will provide an opportunity for local professionals to network and enjoy an exciting morning of sports chatter. Former Yale University baseball teammates Darling and Diana will talk about their days at Yale, career highlights, as well as what’s going on in today’s sports.

Darling is former right-handed starting pitcher for the New York Mets, Oakland Athletics and Montreal Expos. He is currently a sportscaster for national baseball coverage on TBS as well as for the Mets on both SNY and WPIX.

Dr. Diana, a sports medicine specialist, received his M.D. from Yale University, was Orthopedic Consultant for the Boston Red Sox (1992-97), and is among Sinatra’s top 100 doctors in America. Dr. Diana is a former NFL player for the Miami Dolphins (played in Super Bowl XVII) and played baseball with Ron Darling when they were at Yale together. He was also a Yale football and baseball ‘All American.’

Grande hosted the very first broadcast of SportsCenter on ESPN in 1979. Prior to his career at ESPN, Grande was a sportscaster for WTNH in New Haven and most recently for the Cincinnati Reds from 1993 to 2009 for Fox Sports Net.
