New NFL Litigation

Michael McCann over at Sports Law Blog was interviewed on Dryer v. NFL, in which a group of retired NFL players are suing the NFL under the Lanham Act over the NFL’s and NFL Film’s use of their identities.

Connecticut Players in NFL Camps

The Hartford Courant has a blurb on each player with Connecticut ties currently in an NFL training camp.   Former UConn Husky and Arizona Cardinal rookie Cody Brown is out for the year with a wrist injury.  Tyler Lorenzen, the Huskies’ old QB, is trying to make the Jacksonville Jaguars as a tight end.  He hardly looks like a QB anymore.

College Coaches Under the Spotlight

Recent news from the world of collegiate basketball coaching has been overwhelming negative, starting with Rick Pitino and John Calipari.  But has a positive story about a basketball coach.  Vanderbilt’s Kevin Stallings passed up a $100,000 raise so that his team could take a 10-day trip to Australia:

“I knew the university was facing a tough time just like the rest of the country. There were people losing jobs. There was so much distress economically for the university to shell out $100,000 for us to make the trip.”
