3 Ethical Issues for Attorney-Agents

istock_000004271852small11.jpgSports agents who are also practicing attorneys often argue that the Rules of Professional Conduct pose a competitive disadvantage with respect to competitor agents who are not bound by the same ethical rules.  Although attorney-agents often attempt to separate their actions as an attorney from their actions as an agent, an attorney’s ethical duties typically require the attorney to comply even when he or she is not practicing law.

3 of the most common areas in which attorney-agents may be governed under a different set of ethical rules than a non-attorney agent include:

  1. Solicitation of clients
  2. Conflicts of interest
  3. Practicing law outside of the jurisdiction in which you are licensed
