NFL Hands Down Player Suspensions for Saints Bounty System
NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell handed down stiff penalties to the current and former New Orleans Saints players involved in a bounty system, suspending Jonathan Vilma for the season; Anthony Hargrove, now with the Green Bay Packers, for eight games; Saints defensive end Will Smith for four games; and Scott Fujita, now with the Cleveland Browns, for three games.
Vilma, in a statement claimed that the NFL lacked evidence of a pay-to-injure system, however an attorney retained by the NFL, Mary Jo White, claimed that the investigation was thorough. White declined to make the NFL’s evidence public.
Roger Clemens Trial Underway
The retrial of Roger Clemens is underway, and seemingly flying below the sports radar. ESPN’s Lester Munson has some great coverage of the trial. Michael McCann has a new column on SI.com on the Congressional investigation of Clemens.
