Michael Huyghue, Commissioner of the start-up United Football League, told Sports Illustrated’s Peter King that the league will begin play with six teams, including a team in Hartford. The Hartford squad will reportedly play at Rentschler Field, home of the UConn Huskies. The other teams include Los Angeles, San Francisco, Las Vegas, Orlando, and New York.
This is cause for enthusiasm in Connecticut. Perhaps our enthusiasm should be tempered, as no additional details have been announced and many professional football leagues have folded before ever playing a single game. But this news is another indication that Connecticut is serious about bringing more sports and entertainment business into the state.
